Official City Holidays
Official paid holidays for all regular and probationary employees are determined by the City Council. The following days are official holidays for City employees:
New Year's Day January 1
Good Friday Friday preceding Easter
Memorial Day Last Monday in May
Independence Day July 4th
Labor Day First Monday in September
Thanksgiving Day 4th Thursday in November
Thanksgiving Friday 4th Friday in November
Christmas Eve December 24th*
Christmas Day December 25th
*This holiday will not be observed when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
(a) Holidays falling on weekend days. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it will be observed on the preceding Friday; if a holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday.
(b) Holidays not coinciding with City holidays. Employees desiring to observe religious holidays not coinciding with official City holidays may be authorized to use other accrued leave such as vacation leave, compensatory time or their floating holiday.
Holiday Pay
All ful-time regular, temporary, and probationary employees are eligible for eight (8) hours of holiday pay. Regular part-time employees shall receive four (4) hours of holiday pay. Police department employees assigned to 10 or 12 hours will receive equal number of hours of holiday pay depending on the amunt of hours in the assigned shift.
Floating Holiday
All full time regular employees receive a floating holiday on the first of January that must be used within the calendar year. Unused floating holiday time shall not be rolled over to the next calendar year. The floating holiday shall not be granted in intervals of less than one (1) day (8 hours).
